First of all Make sure to take proper backup of data to avoid data loss. Unlocking the bootloader wipes all the data that is stored in internal storage including apps, photos videos, etc.

Download requirements:

  • You have to download the TWRP custom recovery for Lenovo Z5 by clicking here.
  • Download and install the ADB and Fastboot tool onto your computer.

Requisite for the below guide

  • Charge your mobile phone at least 50 – 60 percent to prevent your device from shutting down during the installation Any type of power issue leads to device brick or data loss.
  • Make sure your device bootloader is unlocked. It is not possible to install custom recovery until the bootloader is unlocked.
  • Unlock the device USB debugging mode from the settings. You can enable it by going to the Settings > About Phone > Tap 5-6 times on build number to enable the Developer options. Go to the Developer options under the settings and enable USB debugging.
  • Download and install the Lenovo Z5 drivers on your computer.

How to install TWRP on Lenovo Z5 [Steps]

Step 1: Open the ADB and Fastboot folder on your computer a place the TWRP recovery image file onto the same folder.

Note: Change the TWRP recovery image file “recovery-TWRP-3.2.3-1002.img” to “recovery.img” for ease of use.

Step 2: Right-click on the white empty space and choose “Open command window here” from the popup menu.

Step 3: Command prompt window interface will appear, simply connect your device to the computer via USB cable.

Step 4: Enter the following command on the Command Prompt window interface and hit on the “Enter” button:

adb reboot bootloader

Step 5: By executing the above command, your device will reboot into the bootloader mode. Now, you have to change the active slot to A by executing the below command:

Set active partition from B to A: fastboot -set-active=_a

Step 6: Once the above command successfully executed, enter the following command to install the TWRP recovery on your device:

fastboot boot recovery.img

Step 7: Now, you have to boot your device into TWRP recovery mode by pressing the Volume down and press the Power button to confirm.

Root Lenovo Z5 using Magisk (STEPS)

Rooting the Lenovo Z5 is seamless using Magisk manager. If you don’t know what is Magisk, it is a root manager that allows the user to easily root any Android device using a custom recovery. 1: Download the Magisk.zip and place it to the internal storage of the Lenovo Z5.

2: Open the TWRP custom recovery on your Lenovo Z5 by pressing Volume up + Power button simultaneously for a couple of seconds.

3: TWRP interface will appear, simply tap on the “Install” button and navigate to the Magiks.zip file on internal storage.
